Mitsubishi was ahead of the game when it launched the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, in 2013. The vehicle has been a solid performer in the move towards a greener future, which is reflected in its latest sales milestone. In mid-April, Mitsubishi announced that it has sold 200,000 Outlander PHEV vehicles around the world.
When the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV first rolled out, it started in Japan. Now it has sales in more than 50 countries. Its 200,000 milestone is especially impressive when you consider that it was the bestselling plug-in hybrid in the world at the end of last year. It has a large following in Europe, where it was named the best plug-in vehicle for 2019 by the UK’s COMPANY CAR AND VAN magazine and a 2018 OFF ROAD Award in Germany.
Here in the United States, Green Car Journal named the Outlander PHEV the 2019 Green SUV of the Year and the New England Motor Press Association gave it the award for Best Green Winter Vehicle. Its updates for the 2019 model year lowered its CO2 emissions levels. Besides being even better for the planet, the 2019 Outlander PHEV has an updated drivetrain for a quieter ride and reduce vibration.
